Peddapalli: The Ramagundam Commissionerate Police, who are investigating Zilla Parishad Chairman Putta Madhukar, are trying to collect details of Rs 2 crore withdrawn from banks by him and his family members before the murder of High Court advocate couple Gattu Vamana Rao and PV Nagamani.
Madhukar, who went missing from April 30, was taken into custody by the Ramagundam taskforce police on Saturday. On Sunday, his wife and Manthani Municipal Chairperson Putta Shailaja was also summoned to the commissionerate office and questioned.
Police sources said Rs 2 crore was withdrawn from the bank accounts of Madhukar and his family members two months before the murders. The police are trying to find out the reason behind such a massive withdrawal of cash.
The police sought the transaction details of 12 bank accounts of Madhukar, Shailaja, their son, daughter and daughter-in-law. Bank transaction details of Madhukar’s nephew Bittu Srinu and Kunta Srinu, the duo involved in the murder, Putta Sathish, Pudari Satyanarayana and Rayachur Srinivas were also sought.
Accordingly, the police on Sunday wrote to various banks asking them to furnish details of transactions above Rs 5 lakh.
The investigation into the Rs 2 crore withdrawal gained significance in the wake of allegations levelled by Kishan Rao, the father of Vamana Rao, that Madhukar and Shailaja were behind the murders.
The police are also gathering details on the continuation of the construction of Kunta Srinu’s house in Gunjapadu though he is in jail.
