Kothagudem: A legal awareness seminar was held at Government Junior College under the aegis of Mandal Legal Services Authority in Chunchupalli mandal in the district on Saturday. The objective of the seminar, which was conducted following the direction of the National Legal Services Authority, was to educate the students about the ill effects of drug abuse among youth.
Kothagudem Additional Senior Civil Judge, G Srinivas addressing the students of the college said there were many instances where young people were pushed into a situation where they did not even understand what they were doing due to addiction to drugs. He said that once addicted to drugs, it would be very difficult to break out of the habit. Hence the youth who were supposed to participate in nation building should try to avoid taking drugs.
It was the responsibility of the college’s management to see to it that any psychotic substances were not used in educational institutions, Srinivas suggested. Kothagudem Bar Association president Lakkineni Satyanarayana said drug use would decline only when strict laws were enforced. According to government reports 80 percent of crimes were committed by persons addicted to drugs. He noted that physical exercise was essential to prevent young people from becoming addicted to drugs. He said the schools and colleges should hire more physical education teachers to create awareness about games and games among the students.
The association treasurer Sadiq Pasha, its monitoring committee member M Rajamallu, advocate T Ramesh, Kothagudem one-town Sub-Inspector of Police R Masaiah, and the college principal Katti Ramesh participated in the event.
