Hyderabad: Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu on Saturday reiterated that the Congress government was committed to developing a Green Pharma City and announced that a life sciences park would be established on the land acquired for the project. He clarified that the State government had not cancelled the Pharma City project and said the same had also been informed to the High Court.
According to him, the government was focused on setting up pollution-free industrial units in the proposed Pharma City. The Minister said a leading pharmaceutical company was allotted land in the project area last year as part of the government’s efforts to promote environmentally sustainable industrial development. Addressing media persons here, Sridhar Babu said the government would move ahead with an action plan to develop the Green Pharma City and establish a dedicated life sciences park.
He also pointed out that large industrial projects create demand for residential facilities, recreational spaces and social infrastructure for employees working in those units. The Minister also criticised BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao for stating that the Future City project would be scrapped if the BRS returned to power.
“Is it justified to say that an international-level project will be cancelled for political reasons? If every new government starts scrapping projects initiated by the previous regime, it will affect development,” he said. Sridhar Babu alleged that such remarks harm Hyderabad’s brand image and discourage investment opportunities in the State.
