Mahabubabad: Hailing from a poor Dalit family in a remote thanda in the district, Goli Pavani has gone through all the travails of life before realizing her dream of securing a medical seat, but is at a cross-roads because of her financial background.
Pavani has now appealed to philanthropists for financial aid to continue with her studies. Though she managed to raise Rs 1.05 lakh from various sources including donors so far to pay the admission fee to join the MBBS under the convener quota in the Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), a private medical college, Karimnagar, she needs at least Rs 1.50 lakh immediately to pay the hostel fee.
The younger daughter of Goli Dharmaiah and Sumalatha of Santhulapadu village of Bayyaram mandal, Pavani, sources said, is a very hardworking and ambitious student since her school days. After completing her 10th class from a school at Mukundapuram village in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, she joined the Social Welfare Residential College, Gowlidoddi, Hyderabad, and passed Intermediate scoring 98 per cent. She appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) in 2021, and secured 321st rank in the State in the SC category, scoring 446 marks.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Pavani said that she needed Rs 1.50 lakh towards hostel fees this year. “My father is working as a mason and my mother is a labourer. They are unable to pay the fee for my MBBS seat. In view of this, I appeal to the donors and philanthropists to lend a helping hand to pay the fees at the college to realise my dream of becoming a doctor,” Pavani said, adding that some of her fellow rankers had already started attending classes at the college and are staying in the hostel.
Her elder sister Pravalika is doing her B.Tech final year at JNTU College, Kondagattu near Karimnagar. “We are in dire need of financial support as I could not bear the expenditure of the studies of my daughters,” Dharmaiah said.
