Hyderabad: Mahabubnagar MLA Yennem Srinivas Reddy has once again criticised his own government over the mounting debts being raised by the Congress and the lack of funds available to legislators for taking up development works in their constituencies.
The MLA said that many legislators were unable to visit villages and towns in their constituencies due to a shortage of funds.
“When we are visiting villages, residents appeal for petty works worth Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakh. Unfortunately, we are unable to sanction even those works,” Srinivas Reddy said in a video that has been circulating on social media.
Despite legislators raising these concerns repeatedly, Ministers were not holding discussions or taking measures to resolve them, he said.
“Save for attending marriages and other functions, there is hardly anything we can do while visiting villages,” the MLA remarked.
He added that legislators were facing difficulties in getting projects and works sanctioned. “The MLAs cannot even dare to make any announcement or issue instructions to officials over executing any development works,” Srinivas Reddy said.
Interestingly, the MLA hails from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s home district, Mahabubnagar. This is the second time he has publicly criticised the Congress government, particularly over the rising debts.
Last month, Srinivas Reddy had urged the government to allocate Rs.25 crore annually to each constituency for taking up various developmental works. In an article published in a vernacular newspaper, he had alleged that the State government was not spending even 10 per cent of what was being used for welfare programmes and mega projects on addressing local needs.
Jadcherla MLA J Anirudh Reddy and Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy have extended their support to Srinivas Reddy’s demand.
The growing dissent among Congress legislators over issues such as fund allocation and debt management has sparked debate in political circles, with many expressing concern over the administration’s financial priorities.
