Hyderabad: A major face-off unfolded between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Council meeting here on Tuesday. The house was adjourned and things were brought under control by Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi, who called in marshals to make sure the clash did not escalate further.
When BJP corporators tried to interrupt TRS’s Manne Kavitha Reddy, corporator from Venkateswara Colony ward, Sindhu Adarsh Reddy, TRS corporator from Bharathi Nagar ward waved the now famous poster that had left BJP leaders red-faced after they used pictures of wheat instead of paddy.
The verbal clash took another turn soon when a BJP corporator insulted the TRS party stole and also criticised TRS members for wearing them. Ironically, BJP members themselves were wearing their party stoles when the BJP corporator said TRS members wearing stoles in the Council was something that they should feel ashamed of. The TRS members raised strong objections and shouted slogans.
The attacks and counter attacks continued when BJP corporators alleged that development in Hyderabad had taken a backseat. TRS’s Hema Samala, corporator from Seethaphalmandi, replied sarcastically that an eyesight camp should be organised for BJP leaders as they were unable to see the major metamorphosis that the city underwent, Madhapur Corporator Jagadeeshwar Goud from TRS mentioned the list of Strategic Road Development Plan projects.
