Man arrested for poisoning drinking water of school in Adilabad

Adilabad: A person was arrested for allegedly poisoning the water that was to be used for cooking food at a mid-day meal kitchen in a primary school at Dharmapuri village in Ichoda mandal on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, in a statement, said Soyam Kishtu, a man from hamlet under Dharmapuri village, was apprehended on charges of poisoning the water for the mid-day meal.
During interrogation, Kishtu confessed to the crime as he was depressed following family disputes. He admitted to lacing the drinking water meant for cooking food with a pesticide brought from his brother’s home in Nirmal. He revealed that he broke open the lock of the kitchen when the school was closed for two days.
Pratibha, a teacher of the school lodged a complaint with the police, after she found that the water was laced with pesticide apart from finding empty bottles of the pesticide on the school premises on Tuesday. Around 30 students would have faced a threat to their life if they consumed the mid-day meals.
