Man held for smuggling jaggery, ammonium chloride worth Rs 5 lakh in Nirmal
Guguloth Rajendra Prasad was apprehended for smuggling the jaggery and ammonium chloride used for brewing illicitly distilled liquor locally known as gudumba.
Nirmal: A man was arrested by sleuths of a task force from Prohibition and Excise department for allegedly smuggling black jaggery and ammonium chloride (solid state) at Pembi mandal centre on Tuesday.
The sleuths seized 8,600 kilograms of jaggery, 720 kgs of ammonium chloride, 200 liters of jaggery ferment and 6 liters of illicitly distilled liquor worth Rs 5 lakh from him.
District Prohibition and Excise Officer Razaq said that Guguloth Rajendra Prasad was apprehended for smuggling the jaggery and ammonium chloride used for brewing illicitly distilled liquor locally known as gudumba.
Prasad was found to be storing the ingredients when the sleuths conducted a raid on his house, following a tip-off.
A case was booked against Prasad. Investigations were taken up.
