Medak: Setting an example in implementation of road safety measures, Medak Collector Rahul Raj has strictly imposed a ‘No Helmet No Entry’ rule for employees at the Integrated District Offices Complex.
The Collector even stood at the entrance for a couple of days to find out how many of the employees were wearing helmets. After a couple of days of warning those coming without the headgear, Rahul Raj asked the security at the entrance not to allow them into the collectorate unless they wear a helmet.
Rahul Raj said 150 employees of the collectorate bought helmets as they strictly enforced the rule. Out of the 250 employees, who were coming on two-wheelers, the Collector found 150 of them were not wearing helmets.
Rahul Raj said the district administration and police would carry out various programmes to sensitise the people during the road safety weeks in January every year. As part of that, they carried out various sensitisation progammes at traffic signals and educational institutions this year too. That was when he got the idea of implementing the rule in the collectorate as well.
The employees too obliged to the idea and were seen driving into the office complex wearing helmets. Rahul Raj said the staff must carry RC, insurance, pollution and other documents with them for their safety.
He said that many others would follow in the footsteps of the collectorate staff if they continued to adhere to traffic rules. The Collector educated the staff that 80 per cent of total fatalities reported in two-wheeler road accidents were due to not wearing helmets.
