‘Mission Rabies’ launched in Hyderabad
A month-long drive, the programme aims at administering anti-rabies vaccination to the pets, street dogs and cats to prevent the spread of the deadly rabies disease
Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) along with Blue Cross Hyderabad and 23 other NGOs working for animal rights launched ‘Mission Rabies’ on Saturday.
A month-long drive, the programme aims at administering anti-rabies vaccination to the pets, street dogs and cats to prevent the spread of the deadly rabies disease.
Sharing the news on Twitter, Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Government of Telangana, wrote, “Mission Rabies”— a month long training of Veterinary officers to take up vaccination by @WVScharity launched today along with @bluecrosshyd & 23 other NGOs & @GHMCOnline. We will make #Hyderabad Rabies free in a year i.e. by Aug 15, 2022 (sic).”
Talking about the programme Paneeru Teja, an animal activist in the city, shares, “Rabies is a deadly disease, for both animals and humans. In Hyderabad we haven’t seen a single animal die of rabies in the past six year. However, as they say prevention is better than cure, I laud the government, Blue Cross and other NGOs to take up this initiative. It will ensure a safer environment for all.”
