Mancherial/Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Seventeen students from Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) Residential College, Chennur, created a flutter when they left the institution en masse on Tuesday.
Intermediate first-year students of the college stepped out of the institution without taking permission from the principal. They then met Mancherial MLA Premsagar Rao and listed their problems. Rao’s wife, Surekha, is learnt to have discussed the issues with the students. As per her instructions, officials brought the students back to the college.
It was said that the students were dissatisfied with the amenities provided at the college. They reportedly brought their problems to Rao’s notice as they apparently did not repose confidence in Labour Minister Dr G Vivek, who represents the Chennur segment, to resolve their issues. Vivek drew flak for failing to visit a government residential school in Chennur following the death of a student recently.
Meanwhile, students of another MJP residential school staged a sit-in on a road in Kagaznagar town, alleging that a physical education teacher was torturing them. They alleged that they were being beaten and abused by the teacher for committing minor mistakes. They demanded that officials probe the affairs of the school and take action against him.
The students called BRS leader Dr RS Praveen Kumar over the phone and narrated their plight. Praveen Kumar urged the officials to take steps to address the issue. They withdrew the protest after the police assured them of justice. However, some parents took their wards home following the alleged harassment by the teacher.
