Moosapet leads GHMC crackdown on littering, dumping; fines touch Rs 58.95 lakh citywide
GHMC imposed ₹58.95 lakh in penalties for littering and waste dumping between March and June, with Moosapet circle leading at ₹8.62 lakh. The civic body uses its CCMS app to issue e-challans and track violations with photos and GPS
Hyderabad: The Moosapet circle of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has emerged as the top performer among the city’s 30 circles, imposing the highest number of penalties for cleanliness violations, including littering in public places, dumping debris in nalas, and disposing of building waste on roads and in water bodies.
Individuals and businesses found violating anti-littering regulations in Moosapet alone faced penalties amounting to Rs 8.62 lakh.
Between March and June, GHMC authorities issued 3,138 challans across all 30 circles, collecting a total of Rs 58.95 lakh in penalties for public littering. Of this, Moosapet circle accounted for the highest share, collecting Rs 8.62 lakh through 134 challans.
The GHMC is levying these penalties through its recently launched mobile application, the Comprehensive Challan Management System (CCMS), which functions similarly to traffic violation systems. Offenders receive e-challans and can make payments online.
Violations are documented with photos and GPS coordinates, and SMS notifications are sent to offenders, a senior Town Planning official told ‘Telangana Today’.
Fines for littering on roads range from Rs 500 to Rs 25,000, while those who dump construction waste face penalties between Rs 25,000 and Rs 2 lakh. Circle-level officials are also conducting special drives targeting businesses and shopkeepers.
Following Moosapet, the other top four circles in terms of penalties collected are: Uppal (Rs 6.13 lakh), Kukatpally (Rs 5.58 lakh), Khairatabad (Rs 3.27 lakh), and Secunderabad (Rs 2.88 lakh).
