Mounting debt drives tribal farmer to suicide in Telangana’s Nalgonda
Nannavath Harya, who belonged to Errakalva thanda under Kothapet gram panchayat in Miryalguda mandal, hangs himself to death from a tree near his paddy fields
Nalgonda: In yet another instance of a farmer ending his life due to mounting debts in Telangana, a tribal farmer hanged himself to death in Nalgonda district on Thursday.
According to information available, Nannavath Harya, who belonged to Errakalva thanda under Kothapet gram panchayat in Miryalguda mandal, ended his life by hanging himself from a tree near his paddy fields.
Harya, who was struggling with mounting debts, took the extreme step out of sheer desperation. More details are awaited.
Earlier in the day, a young farmer had attempted suicide as his crops were left dried up due to a severe water crisis in Kudakuda village of Suryapet district.
Vemulakonda Lakshmaiah, a close relative of a Congress leader, made an attempt to end his life consuming pesticide in the midst of his withering crop.
He expressed his anguish over the lack of timely water supply from the SRSP canal, a situation he attributed to the current Congress government’s failure.
As he appeared in the fields with a pesticide container in his hand, other farmers came to his rescue and prevented him from ending his life.
