Hyderabad: The liposomal Amphotericin B drug for treatment of mucormycosis among patients who have recovered from Covid-19 will be available through hospitals only after the recommendation of the government committee.
The Drug Control Administration (DCA) has directed stockists in Telangana not to sell the drug directly to hospitals or patients.
The Director of DCA, Preeti Meena has instructed pharma companies involved in the manufacture of the drug to supply the drug directly to their stockists and share details of the stockists and quantity supplied.
The stockists in turn will issue vials of the drug based on the recommendations of the government committee to the hospitals where the patients are admitted. Stockists cannot issue single vials also to the hospitals and patients directly without recommendation of the committee. Any deviation in this regard will be viewed seriously, Preeti Meena said.
To ensure rational use of the drug, the State government had constituted a committee headed by Director of Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy which will review the medical condition of each patient and release the drug accordingly.
