Hyderabad: Amid protests by various civil organisations, including Musi Jan Andolan (MJA) and Save Musi Movement (SMM), the Musi River Development authorities proceeded with mapping and installation of boundary pillars along the Musi River as part of Musi Riverfront Development.
Works on the boundaries and pillars installation were sped up after the subcommittee, which was set up for the Musi Riverfront Development project, directed the MRDCL authorities to complete the Musi River project by December 2027.
Sources of the Musi River Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) on Wednesday told ‘Telangana Today’ that the boundary pillar works were progressing at a brisk pace on two stretches of the project phase-1.
These works cover a length of 9.20 km from Himayat Sagar to Bapu Ghat and another 11.8 km from Gandipet (Osman Sagar) to Narsingi. Work for precast concrete boundary stones and prestressed vibrated concrete pedestals on both sides of the Musi will be fixed, the sources said.
The MRDCL has assigned the task to an agency which is fixing boundary markings based on blueprints of the River Musi provided by the Revenue and Irrigation departments. It is then installing the pillars along the Musi and Esa tributaries to the Musi, taking the 50-metre buffer zone on both sides of the riverbed into consideration.
Meanwhile, protests are continuing after the Rajendranagar Revenue Sub-Divisional Officer, who is also the Land Acquisition Officer for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, issued a notification for land acquisition in Kismatpur and Dargah Khaleej divisions to acquire the land for the project.
