Karimnagar: Women Congress leaders staged a dharna at the District Congress Committee (DCC) office on Sunday, protesting against the appointment of Rajitha Reddy as the party’s women town president.
Rajitha Reddy was named to the post on Saturday. In response, a group of women activists gathered at the DCC office, demanding the leadership withdraw the decision.
Speaking at the protest, they faulted the party leadership for sidelining senior leaders who had served the party during difficult times, and instead awarding the post to a newcomer.
They alleged it was unfair to reward leaders who frequently switched parties while ignoring those who had remained loyal to the Congress through both power and opposition. The protesters demanded that Rajitha Reddy’s appointment be revoked immediately and that a senior leader be chosen for the post.
