Hyderabad: In a show of solidarity with farmers facing a severe urea crisis, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders staged protests in Kuravi Mandal of Mahabubabad District on Sunday.
The protest, held near the Gundrathimadugu Rythu Vedika, highlighted the Congress government’s alleged failure to ensure adequate fertiliser supplies, forcing farmers to endure long queues and humiliation at cooperative centers. Former Minister Satyavati Rathod joined the farmers waiting in line for urea bags and shared their concern.
Addressing the gathering, BRS leaders accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of “deceiving” farmers by withholding urea supplies, leading to daily ordeals at Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS).
“Farmers are falling unconscious in queues due to exhaustion, yet officials are rationing just two urea bags per patta, regardless of acreage,” one leader remarked.
The protesters lamented that some officials are forcing farmers to purchase costly nano urea bottles as a prerequisite for receiving conventional urea, a tactic described as “exploitative blackmail.” The leaders condemned attempts by officials to convince farmers that urea was unnecessary for cotton and essential only for paddy.”
“This is a deliberate betrayal of the farming community that propelled Congress to power,” they charged.
