Nalgonda: With Nakrekal municipality set to emerge as a junction of National Highways 65 and 365, the town is expected to witness rapid expansion in the days to come.
The municipal authorities, realising the potential for growth, have chalked out a plan to develop facilities in the town to meet future requirements. The municipality also plans to develop Nakrekal into a model town with a focus on increasing revenue generation. It plans to increase the budget by 30 per cent in 2022-23.
Nakrekal, with a population of over 30,000 and a daily floating population of 5,000, is also a business centre for the 15 surrounding villages. Once the National Highways junction is formally thrown open, it is expected to spur rapid growth on all fronts.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Nakrekal Municipal Commissioner Nalla Balaji said the municipality had a budget outlay of Rs 12.27 crore for 2021-22 that is expected to go up to Rs 16 crore in 2022-23, recording a 30 per cent increase. “Re-allotting and revising rents for the municipal commercial complex will generate additional revenue. The income from the complex is expected to go up to Rs 4 lakh per month from Rs 30,000,” he said, adding that grants and taxes would form a lion’s share in the revenue of the municipality.
Under the guidance of Nakrekal MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah, the municipality has chalked out plans for the beautification of the town in addition to the development of required facilities. “We are working towards turning Nakrekal into an issue-free town in the State,” Balaji said.
Stating that works pertaining to outlets of the underground drainage system would be taken up soon at a cost of Rs one crore, he said special measures have also been taken to improve cleanliness and greenery in the town. “Construction of vegetable and meat market would be taken up on the Musi road in the town. In addition to the beautification of Kalamani Kunta, a pond in the town, a walking track would also be developed on its bund. To create lung space for the people, a park with select species of plants will come up near the TSRTC bus stand. Central lighting system works are also in progress,” he said. He sought the cooperation of the people in making Nakrekal a model town in Telangana State.
