Nearly 10,000 policemen on bandobast duties at Medaram: SP

Mulugu: The police department has made all arrangements taking due precautions to prevent untoward incidents, and darshan a hassle free experience for the devotees visiting Medaram tribal shrine, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Sangram Singh G Patil here on Friday. He said they were expecting 1.25 crore devotees for the Medaram during the jatara.
Speaking to the media, the SP said that parking places had been identified for nearly 3.5 lakh vehicles and 4,000 TSRTC buses near the temple, and a total of 10,000 police personnel would be pressed into the bandobast duties.
“We will ensure that there would be no traffic snarls and other issues for the devotees at Medaram jatara,” he said and added that as many as 382 CCTV cameras, two cameras mounted on drones and 20 display panels were set up to monitor the situation round the clock from the command control room.
“Arrangements have been made for vehicle parking at 33 sites besides identifying 37 holding points. Like the past jataras, a police outpost was set up for every four-km distance till Pasra, and outpost for every two-km from Pasra to Medaram,” Patil said and added that mobile patrolling teams would also keep a vigil on traffic and movement of people.
“To lift vehicles parked unauthorisedly or vehicles stopped due to technical glitches, six towing vehicles, 11 cranes and 20 bulldozers have been pressed into service,” he added.
Referring to Covid-19 precautions, he said that each policeman has been given a kit containing masks and sanitizers, and appealed to the people to wear the masks without fail.
The SP also asked the people to follow the police instructions and never try to overtake the vehicles on the roads. “It is better that radium stickers are pasted on tractors and bullock carts coming to Medaram as a precautionary measure to avoid the accidents in the night time,” the senior officer suggested.
