Nirmal’s Shyamgarh fort gets lighting system
According to the history of Nirmal town, the fort was built as part of a defense mechanism by French engineers, who were employed by Nizam II who ruled over this region in 1747.
Nirmal: The historic Shyamgarh fort of Nirmal is undergoing an unprecedented makeover following formation of Telangana state. Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy, who gave a special focus on developing the structure, formally inaugurated the lighting system on Friday evening. The estimated cost of the system was Rs 16.50 lakh granted by Nirmal municipality.

Speaking on the occasion, Indrakaran said efforts were being made to develop ancient forts and to convert the town as a tourist spot, spending Rs 50 crore. He stated that a boating facility would be introduced in Kancharoni cheruvu to attract tourists and to ensure recreation to residents of the district headquarters.
The minister instructed the authorities of the tourism department to take steps for the restoration of Soan bridges, one of the oldest structures of the district. He said that he felt happy to learn that Nirmal municipality was adjudged to be the best civic body in the country for extending loans to street vendors who were hit by the lockdown.
Collector Musharraf Ali Faruqui, who was accompanying the minister, said that steps were being taken to put Nirmal town on the map of tourism and to make it a tourist hub in North Telangana.
History of Shyamgarh fort
According to the history of Nirmal town, the fort was built as part of a defense mechanism by French engineers, who were employed by Nizam II who ruled over this region in 1747. Material used for constructing the structure was stone and mortar. It was erected during the regime of Srinivas Rao who was chieftain of Nirmal.
It is one of the major tourist attractions of Nirmal district. It is one of four forts such as Quilla Gutta or Bhairava Gutta or Nirmal Fort, Batisgharh, Syamgharh and Sonaghad or Soagarh that are situated in the radius of 15 kilometers around the town. It lost its sheen over a period of time due to construction activities and negligence by successive governments.
