Hyderabad: Holi is around the corner and party invites are floating everywhere in the city. While some are choosing to take full advantage of the relaxed norms and party it out like never before, a growing number of youngsters are becoming cautious and are planning to cut short the celebrations and stay home.
At whatever scale one decides to celebrate, it’s important to take Mother Nature and your own health into account.
Every year around Holi, we see a growing number of people choosing non-toxic and eco-friendly colours. The main reason being the growing awareness around how harmful the usual synthetic and chemically made colors could be for our bodies and the environment.
Hyderabad-based organisation Holy Waste is making non-toxic holi colors made out of flower waste collected from around the city. They procure leftover and used flowers from religious shrines, event venues and local flower markets.
“Overall consumers are becoming more conscious and are choosing safe colors. More so from the last two years because of the pandemic. There is also a sense of energy and people want to go out and enjoy themselves. In fact, we have run out of stock at our facility,” says co-founder Maya Vikram.
Event organizers are also taking up the responsibility and choosing to go eco-friendly as this attracts the ever-growing environmentally conscious crowd.
“It is important for us to keep our guests safe. We are using organic colors and made it compulsory for all guests to show their vaccination certificate at the entry.” says Koushik, an event organizer for a Holi party at Madhapur.
Major events happening this Holi are Lathmar Holi, RangeDe Hyderabad and Khelo Holi. These events are predominantly being conducted in open grounds to facilitate larger crowds.
As Holi is celebrated to mark the triumph of good over evil, it is time to choose healthy and non-toxic colors over synthetic and chemically made ones.
