Khammam: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) management is planning to establish local chapters of National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) at the institutes run by the company.

NPTEL is a project of union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) initiated by Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru in 2003 to provide quality education to students interested in learning from the IITs.

Singareni Collieries Educational Society (SCES) secretary Gunda Srinivas informed that the NPTEL local chapters would be formed at Singareni Collieries Women’s Degree College in Kothagudem and at Singareni Collieries Polytechnic, Srirampur in Mancherial district.

The decision was taken after the SCCL chairman and managing director N Balram and the SCES president, director (PA&W) G Venkateshwar Reddy wanted to enhance academic skills of students at the polytechnic college and the degree college.

A six-member committee was set up to study the changes to be made in the existing UG/PG courses and introduction of new courses in the colleges incorporating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), mission learning, data science, data analytics and cybersecurity, Srinivas said.

Credit transfer facility would be available to students who have completed NPTEL courses. Job opportunities would improve for students who get NPTEL certification. Arrangements were being made for the formation of NPTEL chapters. Computer science HoD from the degree college and mining HoD from polytechnic college have been appointed as NPTEL coordinators.

The CMD Balram and the society president Venkateshwar decided to introduce CBSE syllabus in Singareni schools. As a pilot project, arrangements were being made to introduce the syllabus in 2025-26 academic year in Singareni Collieries High School, sector-3, Godavarikhani, RG-2 area, Srinivas added.
