Hyderabad: Health Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday said the High Court directives on preventing the spread of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 would be respected.
Commenting on the orders from Telangana High Court, which on Thursday directed the State government to strictly comply with the latest directives issued by the Union government to prevent the spread of Omicron variant, Harish Rao said the High Court order copy was yet to reach the State government. “We are waiting for a order copy from the High Court. Once we receive, it will be taken up with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao,” he said.
On the issue of measures being taken to contain the threat of Omicron variant, the Minister said the Health Department was ensuring that RT-PCR tests were conducted for all international passengers arriving at RGIA Shamshabad from at-risk countries.
“Frontline and healthcare workers, who form the spearhead of our response to the pandemic, are yet to receive the booster Covid doses. We have urged the Union Health Ministry to allow frontline workers to get booster doses and children to get Covid vaccines but so far they have not responded to our repeated requests,” Harish Rao said.
Other countries have already started implementing the concept of booster doses but unfortunately the Centre was yet to take a decision on the issue, he said. “I will take up these issues with the Union Health Ministry when I am in New Delhi next week to attend a meeting of State Finance Ministers,” he said.
