Online betting addiction drives youth to suicide in Sircilla

Rajanna-Sircilla: A 20-year-old youth from Desaipalli village in Thangallapalli mandal died by suicide on Monday, reportedly upset over his parents’ warnings against online betting.
Thummala Vamshi was found hanging from a tree in his agricultural field. According to police, he had studied up to Intermediate and was working at a car mechanic shop.
Over the last three years, he had become addicted to online betting and lost nearly Rs.10 lakh, most of which he had borrowed from friends.
After learning about his mounting losses, Vamshi’s parents reprimanded him. Distressed over both the financial loss and his parents’ warnings, he is said to have taken the extreme step.
Following a complaint lodged by his father, Srinivas, police have registered a case and begun investigation.
