The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in widespread closures of all educational institutions across the country. Online learning in the school education sector has gained tremendous traction in recent times. Aside from just academic content, they also enable students to gain skills and even prepare for competitive examinations. But there are two sides to every story. E-learning too has its fair share of pros and cons. Let us take a look at some of them.
The Pros: How children can be taught virtually is limitless. For example, Children can get a better understanding of a topic being taught when teachers use virtual tools like graphics/ videos to make them understand. Children today not only have multiple learning options it also builds immense confidence in them through interactive sessions because of their easy and convenient access. Especially those on Ed-tech platforms are extremely flexible and can be adjusted according to the students’ convenience.
The Cons: Difficulty in adapting, lack of social interaction an important part of attending school or college is the peer-to-peer interactions and socialization. Unfortunately, online learning takes away this element. Despite technological evolutions making online classes as interactive as possible, actual face-to-face interaction is key in the longer run. Learners should prioritize their schedule; it calls for utmost self-discipline and constructive time management skills.
Play a video game with your kids. It is a good way to demonstrate good sportsmanship and gaming etiquette. Watch a show with them; you will have the opportunity to introduce and share your own life experiences and perspectives, and guidance.
In the end I would like to say every form of technology comes with its boons and curses; it is the way we use determines how or how much it can influence us. It is the same case for online learning as well, if used properly it can be a blessing. Maintaining a healthy balance is imperative to pave a great future for kids and incorporating some of the above guidelines can certainly go a long way in making the most of online/ at-home learning.
