Hyderabad: Relatives of a 33-year-old driver, Srinu Badavath, a resident from Manuguru, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, who was declared as brain dead by the attending team of neuro physicians, have donated his organs, as part of Jeevandan, the State-run organ donation initiative.
On January 22, the youngster met with an accident when he, along with his brother, was travelling on a two-wheeler when they were hit by a pig crossing the road. While his brother escaped without any injuries, Srinu received severe injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment and later shifted to Yashoda Hospitals, Malakpet.
After 72-hours of intensive care, the health condition of Srinu did not improve and the hospital’s neuro-team declared him as brain dead on January 25 due to multiple trauma-related injuries.
After a series of counselling sessions taken up by grief counsellors, the family members of Srinu, who is survived by two children, wife Pavani and father, decided to donate his organs.
The surgeons retrieved six organs including two kidneys, liver, lungs and two corneas and allocated them to different centres for transplantation based on the Jeevandan organ donation guidelines. The Jeevandan officials appreciated the family members of Srinu for taking the decision to donate his organs for the noble cause.
