Hyderabad: Over 1,200 families affected due to flooding of River Musi were evacuated to nearby community halls, government schools, and function halls. The evacuation process started on Friday night after the HMWSSB released surplus floodwater from Osmansagar and Himayathsagar.

According to GHMC officials, around 500 residents of Shanker Nagar area were shifted and accommodated in Shahzadee Masjid and 150 residents of the Moosa Nagar locality were shifted to Moosanagar Community Hall No. 2.

Forty-five families of Durga Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar, near Moosarambagh Bridge, were accommodated in Lanka Govt High School while 23 families of Durganagar were shifted to upper floors in Lanka Govt School and 32 residents of Krishna Nagar were moved to Krishna Nagar Community Hall. Meanwhile, 55 persons from Bhoo Laxmi temple were shifted to a safe place at Gode-ki-Khabar GHMC Community Hall.

On Friday night, the Hydraa DRF teams rescued four people who were trapped in floodwater on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) service road between Narsingi and Manchirevula.

The floodwaters surged over the service road after the gates of Osman Sagar were opened. Despite barricades indicating the route was closed, a driver attempted to cross the road in an auto trolley. The driver and four others were in the trolley when it stalled due to the rising waters, and Police and Hydraa DRF personnel rescued and brought them to safety.

On Saturday, the GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan visited a rehabilitation centre set up by GHMC at the Government High School in Golnaka Lanka, Amberpet Circle and spoke with the flood affected families.

He also inspected the new bridge under construction over the Musi River near Moosarambagh. Engineering officials informed the Commissioner that the completed sections of the bridge did not suffer any damage and that only the centering between the P1 and P2 pillars of the bridge construction was washed away.
