Hyderabad: The political heat in New Delhi will go up several notches on Monday when the entire Telangana State Cabinet, elected representatives of TRS and party leaders embark on an unprecedented day-long ‘Maha Dharna’ against the BJP government at the Centre for its discrimination towards the State in paddy procurement. TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is likely to lead the protest and address the nation, demanding that the union government announce a national uniform foodgrains procurement policy.
This perhaps will be the first time that a State government stages a demonstration of this magnitude in the national capital.
The epicentre of the protest will be Telangana Bhavan, with the demonstration expected to begin at around 9 am on Monday. The protests will begin with tributes being paid to the statues of Telangana Talli, Dr BR Ambedkar and Telangana Martyrs Memorial arranged at the venue.
All arrangements have been made for the agitation with seating arrangements for about 1,500 elected representatives belonging to TRS. A 40 feet dias has also been erected where the Chief Minister along with TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao, Cabinet Ministers and other elected representatives will stage the protest. Scores of TRS elected representatives have already reached Delhi by flights and trains.
Apart from elected representatives from TRS, leaders representing various political parties, farmers’ unions and other civil organisations are expected to participate in the demonstration. Many of these organisations have already announced their support to the protest which is being considered as one of the largest farmers’ agitations in recent times after the protests organised against the contentious farm laws that were repealed.
Meanwhile, the surroundings of Telangana Bhavan turned pink with the streets in the national capital adorned with flex boards and cut-outs of Chandrashekhar Rao, Rama Rao, Ministers and others, apart from TRS flags. The massive hoardings of the Chief Minister carry Telangana’s demand for a uniform national policy on foodgrains procurement. More than 150 hoardings have been installed near Parliament with punchlines like ‘One Nation, One Paddy Procurement’ policy and ‘Central government must safeguard passion of farmers’. The slogans on posters questioning the Centre’s discriminatory policy against the state of Telangana and its farmers posters carry messages in both English and Hindi.
Besides exposing the Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana in paddy procurement, funds allocation and other issues, the TRS is likely to declare its action plan to take on the BJP government at the Centre on its anti-farmer, anti-workers and anti-people’s policies. The TRS leadership is said to be planning an assault on the BJP for its divisive politics in the name of religion, region, language and culture, rather than addressing pressing issues like inflation, unemployment, remunerative income to farmers and national development.
