Hyderabad: Hare Krishna Movement celebrated the Panihati Chida –Dahi, a traditional festival of honouring chipped rice and yogurt prasadam on Saturday at Hare Krishna Golden Temple, Banjara Hills. Devotees from all parts of Hyderabad and the twin cities participated and received the Lord’s divine blessings.
Chida-Dahi Mahotsava — also known as Danda Mahotsava (the Festival of Punishment) — is a joyous annual commemoration of a wonderful pastime of Sri Nityananda Prabhu and Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami, celebrated on the thirteenth day of the bright moon in the month of Jyeshtha (May–June). It is an occasion to remember how the Lord mercifully reciprocated with His devotees by arranging an ecstatic feast of yogurt, chipped rice and various other nectarian foodstuffs.
Their Lordships Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga are beautifully adorned with Navavasträs and exquisite jewellery and in the evening are carried in a pallaki procession, accompanied by soul-stirring Harinam Kirtans. This was followed by the Sri Nitai Gauranga Abhishekam and a Special Pravachan followed by Maha Mangala Arati.
Sriman Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa Prabhuji, President of Hare Krishna Movement, Hyderabad said that “Panihati Chida –Dahi is the festival which shows us the best way to get the blessings of the Lord — by serving His beloved devotees.
