Kothagudem: Physical aids and assistive devices were distributed to persons with disabilities (PWDs) here on Tuesday.
At a programme organised by the Department of Women, Child, Disabled and Senior Citizens Welfare at the Collectorate, District Collector Anudeep Durishetty distributed retrofitted motor vehicles, battery operated wheelchairs, laptops to PWDs.
Speaking on the occasion, he informed that the physical aids and assistive devices were distributed to those who submitted applications on Telangana State Online Beneficiary Management and Monitoring System (OBMMS) following due procedures.
Anudeep suggested the beneficiaries to make better use of the aids and devices. He interacted with research scholars Srikanth Reddy, Sambasiva Rao and Srinivas after handing over laptops to them and advised them to complete their research successfully.
The battery operated wheelchairs and retrofitted motor vehicles would be distributed to the applicants in a phased manner, he said. On the occasion, the Collector also launched ‘Bal Rakshak’ vehicles meant to rescue children under the age of 18 years when they were in trouble.
Anudeep informed that Bal Rakshak rescue teams would rush to the spot on receiving emergency calls on toll free number 1098. The rescued children would be presented before the district Child Welfare Committee and measures would be taken for their care.
Municipal Chairperson Kapu Sitalaksmi, District Welfare Officer Varalakshmi, Child Welfare Officer Hari Kumari, Childline coordinator Raj Kumar, Child Rights Protection Committee members Ambedkar and Sadiq Pasha and TVPS president Sathish Gundapuneni were present.
