Adilabad: Tension prevailed at the Assembly on Saturday after soybean farmers from Adilabad tried to barge into the premises to complain about the hardships they were facing over delays in procurement.
Raising slogans against the government, they tried to enter the Assembly premises. However, the police stopped them at the gate and denied them permission. This triggered a tense atmosphere at the precincts for a while.
The farmers said they had come all the way from Adilabad and insisted that they wanted to meet Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao. The farmers complained that officials were not procuring their stocks, citing different reasons, including failure to meet the standards set by National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).
Despite repeated appeals from farmers, the police refused to permit them. Disheartened, the farmers left the venue.
