Police target KTR in Lagacherla attack case; remand report claims confession by ex-MLA
The report accuses Narender Reddy of orchestrating attacks under Rama Rao's alleged direction to “destabilise/deteriorate the government and gain political mileage"
Hyderabad: In a move that has sparked public outrage across the State, the Telangana police on Wednesday named BRS working president KT Rama Rao in the remand report of former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy, alleging his involvement in the Lagacherla incident.
The report accuses Narender Reddy of orchestrating attacks under Rama Rao’s alleged direction to “destabilise/deteriorate the government and gain political mileage”.
The remand report claims that Narender Reddy confessed during interrogation that the attacks were part of a “criminal conspiracy” guided by a “party prominent leader,” explicitly implicating Rama Rao and “others”.
The controversy stems from two remand reports – one detailing the arrest of 16 farmers and another for Narender Reddy – both repeatedly referencing the involvement of a “party prominent leader.”
It was also mentioned that Narender Reddy directed the prime accused B Suresh and others as well as abetted them to attack the officials with an intention to kill, with an assurance that “the party prominent leader will look after them by supporting them in all angles.”
However, legal experts have raised serious questions about the police’s approach, arguing that basing the case on unsubstantiated confessions was both legally weak and politically motivated. They argued that the police were using these confessions to intimidate Rama Rao and tarnish the BRS’s image.
They also pointed out that the confessions to police, without corroborative evidence, were inadmissible in court and that they appeared more like an attempt to harass than a legitimate investigation.
The BRS meanwhile has pointed out that remand report was nothing but an attempt to target Rama Rao politically, with leaders accusing the police of acting at the behest of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who they said was driven by the sole agenda of political vendetta.
