Mulugu: Police unearthed a few landmines and some explosive material from the pavement on the road from Koppusuru to Gundlavagu project area in Wazedu mandal in the district on Friday, SP Sangram Singh Ganpatrao Patil said on Saturday.
In a release here, he said: “Taking due precautions with the help of Bomb Disposal (BD) team and dog squad, the mines were dug out safely and defused by the BD team. Later, the explosive materials were seized, and subsequently, a criminal case was registered under various sections of law at Wazedu Police Station.”
He said the banned CPI (Maoists) leaders Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, Kankanala Raji Reddy and other senior leaders of Telangana State committee of CPI (Maoist) party, Dalam members and militia members had planted landmines in Koppusuru forest area to kill a police party that usually goes out on combing operations in the area. A team led by ASP, Eturunagaram, Gaush Alam, CI Venkatapuram along with RI (Operations), Mulugu, SI Venkatapuram, SI Wazedu, Special party team Mulugu, Bomb Disposal (BD) team, dog squad, personnels from CRPF 39/B Bn and other police personnel participated in the unearthing the mines.
