Protests by students of University of Hyderabad over 400 acres of land ignite national outcry

Hyderabad: The protests by students from University of Hyderabad (UoH) over the 400 acres of land at Kancha Gachibowli have rapidly escalated into a major national issue across various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).
Moved by images of excavators clearing the green cover at Kancha Gachibowli, individuals from diverse backgrounds across the country expressed their concern. The outpouring of public sentiment has led to widespread discussion on the issue, with many wondering why the removal of the green cover can’t be stopped.
A large number of environmental groups, activists, students and even senior journalists, who are attached to the subjected of environmental conservation, chimed-in and supported the protests by students.
Noted environmental journalist and biologist, Bahar Dutt posted “Students are calling out #telangana govt to save 400 acres of kancha Gachibowli rich in biodiversity being flattened for an industrial project. Why not wait for the Court hearing before ordering the JCBs (sic) ?
Senior IAS officer (Retd) IYRK Rao posted “Whether it belongs to #UOH or not #kanchagachibowli needs to be preserved as lung space of #cyberabad. Real estate, industry can locate elsewhere”.
Young Indian climate activist from Manipur Licypriya Kangujam took to X and posted “Meanwhile in Hyderabad! Government sent dozens of bulldozer to clear University of Hyderabad reserve forest area of 400 acres. Stop this nonsense immediately. I stand with the students and people of Hyderabad”.
Commenting on the issue, noted editorial cartoonist Satish Acharya said “Something Seriously wrong in Telangana”.
Evangelist Dr K A Paul posted “blasting Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy to stop selling Hyderabad University property 400 acres to Adani or whoever. Or else face serious legal and Political consequences”.
