Hyderabad: Protests against the Telangana Congress government over the delay in issuance of recruitment notifications continued on the Osmania University (OU) campus on Tuesday as well.
The Telangana Unemployed Joint Action Committee, which organised a large rally on the campus, demanded immediate release of recruitment notifications to fill up 20,000 SI and police constable posts.
Telangana Unemployed JAC chairman Mothilal Naik said if the government notifies 5,000 police jobs, then as per GO 46, around 2,000 posts would be reserved for Hyderabad, leaving only 3,000 posts to be distributed among the 33 districts. He argued that if only 3,000 posts were available across 33 districts, the unemployed candidates would have limited opportunities to compete for.
“We demand the government release recruitment notification for 20,000 SI and Police constable vacancies instead of the proposed 5,000. If not, there might be widespread unrest in the State, with a major agitation from the OU,” he warned.
Further, the protesters demanded that the long jump qualification requirement in the police job recruitment process be reduced to 3.5 metres. They also called for the upper age limit for SI and police constable recruitment to be increased to 36 years and 38 years respectively.
The Unemployed JAC wanted the government to withdraw GO No 46 and reduce the application processing fee from Rs 1,000 to Rs 100. Among those who participated in the programme were Unemployed JAC Women’s president Asma, general secretary RK Vannar Chola, Anita Mudiraj, Raju Yadav, and others.
On Monday, a large number of students, along with the OU BRSV activists, staged a protest demanding the government immediately release recruitment notifications for two lakh vacancies and honour its assembly poll assurance to unemployed youth.
