Railway Protection Force of SCR rescues 1,385 children, arrest 460 persons in year 2024

Hyderabad: In the year 2024, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Central Railway (SCR) rescued a total of 1,385 children, including 240 girls, from the railway premises. Of them, 491 children were rescued from human trafficking.
Apart from this, 460 persons were arrested for stealing passenger belongings and recovered stolen material worth Rs 3.17 crore. A total of 500 cases were registered in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP).
According to the RPF data which was released on Tuesday, as many as 674 criminals were arrested in 367 cases under the provisions of the Railway Police Act, wherein railway property worth Rs 83.3 lakh was recovered.
Further, to facilitate safe and secure train journey, the RPF personnel booked a total of 68,746 cases against foot board travelers, unauthorised travelers in ladies and specially abled coaches, trespassers, nuisance creators, etc. A total fine of Rs 1.3 crore was imposed on them.
In efforts to combat illicit activities, 127 drug peddlers were arrested in 111 cases with the seizure of 2,311.31 kgs of marijuana worth over Rs 5 crore during this year.
As a demonstration of goodwill and commitment to passenger welfare, belongings in 2,576 instances valued at Rs 6.9 crore were returned to passengers who had inadvertently left their possessions behind on trains or within railway premises.
SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain said appreciated the efforts of the RPF during 2024 and stated that the efforts of the force in safeguarding rail passengers would continue in 2025 as well.
