Minister Indrakaran Reddy convenes a review meeting with district authorities in Adilabad on Tuesday.
Adilabad: Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy said the district administration and public representatives were able to prevent losses by staying alert during the recent torrential rains that lashed the district. He stated that a report would be submitted to the government on the damages to crops and property caused by the floods.
Speaking at a review meeting with district authorities here on Tuesday, Indrakaran Reddy said both the district administration mechanism and elected representatives stayed alert and advised the public to be cautious following the heavy rains. The alertness of the authorities and public representatives prevented a great loss by the downpours registered from July 21 to 23.
The Minister instructed authorities concerned to assess damages of crop, roads, houses and others caused by the deluge. He asked the executive engineer of the roads and building department to discuss with Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA)-Utnoor to take up repair of roads battered by the heavy rains in tribal habitations. He told the officials to utilise funds on time.
Indrakaran stated that 95 electric poles were uprooted and 11 agriculture transformers were damaged due to the incessant rains, disrupting supply of power to 28 habitations across the district. He said that the electricity to the villages was restored immediately with authorities of NPDCL swiftly swinging into action. He appreciated the officials for working hard to provide power to both agriculture and domestic needs.
Collector Sikta Patnaiak explained the measures taken by the district administration and details of the damage caused by the catastrophe. She stated that 71 houses were damaged, while rainwater entered 106 homes and the district registered a human loss due to the floods. She stated that estimations were prepared to take up repairs of roads and irrigation tanks.
The IAS officer informed that standing crops belonging to 7,425 farmers and being grown in 19,622 acres were affected by the rains and six cattle were killed. Zilla Parishad chairperson Rathod Janardhan, Adilabad MLA Jogu Ramanna and Boath legislator Rathod Bapu Rao also spoke. They requested the authorities concerned to carry out surveys of damage and to be accessible to the public.
DCCB Chairman Kamble Namdev, In-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra, Additional Collectors M David and Nataraj, Adilabad RDO Rajeshwar and many officials were present.
