Peddapalli: Amber Kishore Jha, Police Commissioner of Ramagundam, on Friday said the commissionerate has set a target to reduce road accidents by 30 per cent every year within its limits.
As part of the initiative, a special plan is being prepared in coordination with departments such as municipal administration, education, health, transport, RTC and other government wings. He said every government employee should take responsibility for educating people about traffic rules.
The Commissioner participated in the ‘Arrive-Alive’ traffic rules awareness programme held at the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation office to sensitise staff and officials from the municipal, education, transport, R and B and other departments.
Addressing the gathering, he said that under the Arrive-Alive programme, all government employees would be educated on traffic rules. He noted that road accidents could be significantly reduced if motorists followed traffic rules and adopted safe and defensive driving practices.
He said wearing helmets by two-wheeler riders and seat belts by four-wheeler drivers was mandatory. Every driver must carry a driving licence, vehicle insurance and registration documents, which were not only legal requirements but also ensure financial protection, he said.
The CP urged government employees to act as role models by wearing helmets while riding and to bring about change among the public through responsible behaviour.
Later, he distributed helmets to employees. Additional Collector Arunasree, Peddapalli DCP B Ram Reddy, ACP G Krishna and other police officials participated in the awareness programme.
