Rare cancer treatment on 52-year-old at Durgabai Deshmukh Renovo Cancer Centre
The patient had been suffering from abdominal distension, breathlessness, loss of appetite, and weight loss for the past four months. A medical team led by Dr. U. Azad Chandrashekhar, Medical Director and Senior Surgical Oncologist, performed the complex HIPEC surgery, which combined cytoreductive surgery with heated chemotherapy directly administered to the abdomen, according to a press release.

Hyderabad: Cancer surgeons at Durgabai Deshmukh Renova Cancer Centre, Vidyanagar on Monday announced that they have successfully performed Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) surgery on a 52-year-old woman patient from Mudigonda village, Khammam, who suffered from Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, a rare form of cancer in the abdomen ad pelvis.
The patient had been experiencing abdominal distension, breathlessness, loss of appetite, and weight loss for the past four months.
Led by Dr. U. Azad Chandrashekhar, Medical Director & Senior Surgical Oncologist, the medical team executed the intricate HIPEC surgery, which involved a combination of cytoreductive surgery and heated chemotherapy delivered directly to the abdomen, a press release said.
The procedure, lasting 10 to 12 hours included Peritonectomy, Cholecystectomy, Gastrectomy, Sphincterotomy, Jejunal Resection, Total Colectomy, Gastrojejunostomy, Ileorectal Anastomosis, and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy. The patient has recovered fully within a week, said Dr. Chandrashekhar.
The surgical team also included Dr.Samanth, Anesthesiologist, Dr.Ravikumar Reddy, Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Ullas, Surgical Oncologist and Dr.Rakesh Kumar, Surgical Oncologist were parts of the surgery
