Ravichandran Ashwin announces retirement from IPL after 221 matches across five franchises
Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the IPL, concluding a remarkable career with 187 wickets in 221 matches across five franchises. The Chennai-based off-spinner, who retired from international cricket in January, expressed gratitude to BCCI, franchises, and fans.

Hyderabad: One of the finest off-spinners ever from India, Ravichandran Ashwin, formally announced retirement from the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday.
The Chennai-based former India star took to social media to make the announcement, putting an end to an illustrious career in IPL, picking 187 wickets from 221 matches for five different franchises – Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
“Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin posted on his ‘X’ handle.
“I would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me,” Ashwin said.
The classy off-spinner played his final season for CSK early this year picking seven wickets, scoring 33 runs in nine games.
Ashwin retired from international cricket this January.
