Hyderabad: Telangana LPG Distributors Association (TLDA) has urged the State Government to recognize the LPG delivery and support Staff as frontline corona warriors and administer vaccine to safeguard them and lakhs of families they visit on a daily basis to deliver LPG cylinders.
The TLDA has told the Government it cannot continue home delivery of cylinders beyond seven days, if its demand is not considered, the association president M Venkateshwara Rao said in a press release here on Saturday.
Any adverse effect on the home delivery of LPG refill due to the absence of the distributor staff after the mentioned date, would be the responsibility of the government, he said.
Rao said LPG delivery boys, who visit customers’ houses daily can easily become super spreaders infecting many people, but the authorities have failed to recognise this.
Distributors were feeling helpless and were no more in a position to push their delivery staff to carry out home delivery on a daily basis without proper safety gear, he said.
Delay in action by the State Government coupled with the second wave of corona, in which many LPG delivery staff got infected and several losing their lives, has instilled a fear in the minds of the rest of delivery and support staff, who are reluctant to work, he explained.
TLDA has made many representations to government on the issue and Commissioner Civil Supplies has issued an order dated May 5 to all the District Collectors to vaccinate the Petroleum industry workers on top priority but due to different reasons, vaccination could not take place.
“Since last 30 days, we lost 13 people, including seven distributors to Covid-19 infection,” said Rao adding that few States like Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam and few North East States have already started vaccinating the LPG network and brought LPG workers under Frontline Workers category.
“We are confident that Telangana Government will be considerate as always and would help the LPG Network in obtaining the rightly deserved status of “Corona frontline workers” for the delivery and support staff of LPG distributors,” said Rao.
