Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Friday sought the Union government’s intervention to reduce the customs duty on import of oil palm seed sprouts and in sourcing good quality seed from countries across the world. The Chief Secretary met the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar at the Indian Institute of Millets Research at Rajendranagar here. The Union Minister along with Union Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Agarwal planted saplings at the IIMR centre.
The Chief Secretary briefed Agarwal about the initiatives taken up by the State government to cultivate oil palm in 20 lakh acres across the State. Later, the Union Minister inaugurated Nutri-Cereal Seed Science Centre, millets food processing units and glasshouse research facilities at the campus. The Minister went round the Nutri Cereals innovation centre. IIMR officials briefed Tomar about the activities of the organisation. Earlier, Somesh Kumar had a meeting with Agarwal at IIMR.
