Rajanna-Sircilla: A remand prisoner, Bura Babu, filed his nomination for the Sarpanch post of his native village Marupaka in Vemulawada urban mandal from inside Jagtial sub-jail.
His wife, former MPP Vajramma, also filed her nomination for the same post, which is reserved for SC General.
According to sources, one Damela Ramesh of Elkalapalli in Palakurthy mandal, Peddapalli district, allegedly approached Babu promising to secure large bank loans from private institutions on commission. Ramesh is said to have collected about Rs 10 lakh from Babu and another person as commission but remained unreachable for some time. On November 12, Babu and others reportedly caught Ramesh and assaulted him.
Enraged, Ramesh lodged a kidnap complaint with Mallial police on November 15. Based on his complaint, the police arrested Babu and produced him before court, following which he was sent to judicial remand.
Confident of securing bail, Babu filed his nomination from the jail and decided to stay in the contest even if bail is denied. If he fails to come out, his wife Vajramma will campaign on his behalf.
