Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday described Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla’s address to the Assembly as historic, claiming that it reflected the aspirations of the State government and its commitment to development. However, his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address largely turned into a prolonged political attack on the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi, with limited focus on explaining the government’s achievements or outlining future plans. Though the BRS tried to counter his claims, it was not given an opportunity to speak.
From the beginning of his speech, which lasted for more than two and a half hours, the Chief Minister targeted the BRS leadership, accusing it of arrogance and of showing disrespect to the Governor. Taking an indirect dig at Opposition leader K Chandrashekhar Rao, he remarked that though kingdoms had vanished, royal tendencies continued among some leaders. He criticised the opposition for failing to greet the Governor and alleged that its conduct had disappointed the people of the State.
Revanth Reddy also questioned the absence of the Leader of the Opposition from the House, claiming that the position carried salaries and allowances amounting to Rs 1.06 crore, paid from public funds. He said a discussion was needed on members who draw benefits without attending the Assembly.
While accusing the opposition of not offering constructive suggestions, the Chief Minister spent most of his speech criticising the BRS instead of elaborating on the initiatives mentioned in the Governor’s address or responding to issues raised by the opposition parties. In his rhetoric against the BRS, he even ignored members of other political parties.
He briefly referred to the government’s Telangana Rising-2047 vision, stating it was prepared on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat goal. He shifted to defending the Musi riverfront project and blamed the BRS for obstructing development, at times making indirect remarks likening opposition leaders to mythological demons creating hurdles to government programmes.
While speaking on the implementation of six guarantees, Revanth Reddy also made personal remarks on KT Rama Rao, with comments on former MLC K Kavitha as well.
