Hyderabad: Cloudy and overcast weather conditions in Hyderabad for the past several weeks have led to a significant rise in cases of viral fevers, senior district health officials said on Wednesday.
For the past ten days, the outpatient wings of Gandhi Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and Fever Hospital have reported a steady increase in viral fever cases. Patients with high-grade fever, cough and body pains, all symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections, are seeking treatment at these government health care facilities.
At Gandhi Hospital alone, the number of people visiting the outpatient department (OP) is now between 1,800 and 1,900 a day. A senior district health official said, “There is a definite rise in cases of viral fevers and also vector-borne ailments like dengue and chikungunya. We urge people to take utmost precaution so that a major surge in infections is avoided once the weather starts clearing up.”
