Hyderabad: The City Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar on Sunday held a meeting with the representatives of various Gau Rakshak (Cow Protection) organisations to discuss security measures and the maintenance of law and order in the city.
Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner emphasised that the police department has initiated foolproof measures, including the setting up of specialised check-posts at the Commissionerate borders, to prevent any untoward incidents in the run-up to the Eid al-Adha festival.
He stated that gau rakshaks must respect the legal process and any information regarding the illegal transportation of cattle must be immediately reported to the police. “Under no circumstances should individuals take the law into their own hands or resort to physical violence against suspects. Gau rakshaks are strictly forbidden from carrying weapons or sharp objects during their activities,” said Hyderabad CP VC Sajjanar.
The officials said that strict instructions have been issued to officials to register criminal cases against those posting provocative reels or videos on social media that could hurt religious sentiments or incite communal tension.
“Volunteers are prohibited from joining police personnel at check-posts. They are further directed not to photograph cattle or share details of suspects on social media platforms,” said Sajjanar.
The Commissioner further informed that surveillance on the illegal transport of cattle—conducted without valid veterinary certification— will continue year-round. Citizens and organisations can provide information 24/7 via the Police Control Room at 8712661000.
