Sangareddy: Telangana Praja Sangala Joint Action Committee (TPJAC) has sensitised the people of Malgi, Dappur and neighbouring villages on the ill-effects of the proposed Sree Asha Aldehydes and Adhesives Limited close to their villages.
These villages are located on the Telangana-Karnataka border in Nyalkal mandal. While the State government is preparing to hold a meeting on January 3 to know public opinion, the TPJAC educated farmers, informing them that the industry would be using harmful acetaldehyde and methanol, which are known to cause cancer.
Experts also said that the proposed site for the project is located exactly in the backwaters of the Manjeera river, which is a source of drinking water for Hyderabad and the erstwhile Medak and Nizamabad districts, and would cause great harm.
Apart from that, the presence of the industry would pollute the environment, groundwater and soil in the area. Experts led by Kanneganti Ravi, Y Ashk Kumar, Raguapally Lakshmi, Manasa, Ashok and others interacted with the farmers. Speaking on the occasion, Ravi said that the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report had many flaws.
Since the presence of the project would impact neighbouring Karnataka villages, as it is proposed to be built less than half a kilometre away from the border, Ravi said the industry would need to get clearance from the central environmental ministry. However, he said no such attempt had been made so far. The team also demanded that the management place details of the chemicals to be used and its zero liquid discharge management plan before the people.
