Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved significant progress in augmenting infrastructure expansion, passenger services, revenue generation and passenger safety measures in 2025, senior railway authorities in Hyderabad said.
A major highlight of the year was the commissioning of the Charlapalli Satellite Terminal in January, aimed at easing congestion at Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Kacheguda terminals, which went a long way in improving passenger convenience and operational efficiency in the Hyderabad region.
Healthcare facilities for railway employees and beneficiaries were strengthened with the installation of a 64-slice CT scan machine at Lallaguda Central Hospital in March, followed by the introduction of an in-house Cardiac Cath Lab in June.
Passenger amenities and station infrastructure saw a major upgrade under the Amrit Bharat Station initiative. Begumpet, Karimnagar and Warangal stations were redeveloped and inaugurated in May, while the historic Kacheguda station received architectural illumination and heritage-focused beautification, enhancing its tourism appeal.
Train services expanded steadily during the year. A new daily train between Kacheguda and Bhagat Ki Kothi was introduced in July. Vande Bharat Express services were extended to Nanded from Jalna and to Narasapur from Vijayawada, while a new weekly train between Tirupati and Sainagar Shirdi was launched in December.
On the infrastructure front, SCR commissioned bypass lines at Peddapalli and Wadi to reduce delays and improve train running times. Track expansion touched 199 kilometres, including new lines, doubling and third-line projects.
Electrification covered 184 track kilometres, achieving 100 per cent electrification of the Secunderabad Division. Automatic Block Signalling was commissioned over 529 kilometres, significantly enhancing line capacity.
Freight and passenger earnings reflected this growth. Between January and November 2025, freight loading reached 136.2 million tonnes, while gross originating revenue rose to Rs 19,314 crore. Passenger and freight revenues also showed steady year-on-year growth.
