Jagtial: An incident of ragging has come to light at JNTU Engineering College, Nachupalli, near the Kondagattu temple, despite the institution’s claims of strict vigilance.
A video showing senior students ragging two juniors on the college premises has gone viral on social media. Seniors reportedly made two first-year B Tech students take part in an interaction session, which turned into ragging.
Although the incident occurred four days ago, it came to light on Sunday. Neither the college management nor the police have received any formal complaint so far.
It is learnt that the seniors conducted a mock wedding ritual involving the two first-year students, making it appear as if they were getting them married. Some students present recorded the incident on their mobile phones.
Denying that the episode amounted to ragging, some seniors reportedly claimed it was only meant as harmless fun as part of an introduction with the juniors, and that no harassment was involved.
College Principal Narasimha maintained that no ragging had taken place on campus, stating that students usually play light-hearted games as part of the introduction process. He said no complaint had been received and assured strict action if one was filed.
Parents, however, expressed concern and held the college authorities responsible, stating that ragging had occurred due to a lack of supervision. They urged the management to take preventive steps to avoid such incidents.
