Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer Shivadhar Reddy assumed charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana at the DGP headquarters in Lakdikapul on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media after taking charge, Reddy said that he would urge the State government to expedite recruitment for vacant posts in the police department to further enhance law enforcement across the state.
On preparations for the upcoming local body elections, he assured that the police are fully geared u. “We have a strong team and will make extensive use of technology at the ground level to ensure smooth conduct of elections,” he said.
Touching upon the issue of left-wing extremism, the DGP said, “Recently, Maoist leaders expressed willingness to give up the path of armed struggle. We urge them to join the mainstream of society. Their ideology has failed in practice, and those who surrender will be given all necessary support.”
He further emphasized on strengthening the police force not just in numbers but in skills. “Rather than only increasing the number of police stations, our focus will be on upgrading the skills of personnel. Vacancies in specialized wings will be filled with experts,” he added.
The new DGP had signaled a renewed focus on modernization, community engagement, and countering extremism through both policing and rehabilitation measures.
